Stock market is an important part of the economy of a country. The stock market plays a pivotal role in the growth of the industry and commerce of the country that eventually affects the economy of the country to a great extent. The stock market is significant to an economy because it is a way for a business to gain capital while avoiding a commercial loan. Simultaneously, the market allows a private individual the chance to buy a piece of a company. A stock market also gives a country the opportunity to have foreign money invested.

To gain benefits from the security market like other countries, Cambodia officially launched its stock exchange in July last year, one of the last south-east Asian nations to do so. Since stock market is a new phenomenon for Cambodia and because stock market is complicated and confusing to many people, basic education is necessary.

Enrich would like to organize a public seminar and panel discussion on the topic “Understanding Stock Market” to contribute to raising understanding of this important topic among the population, focus particularly university students. Because there is such a negative perception associated with the stock market at times, people are often led to believe that understanding the stock market is as simple as understanding gambling. Though it may seem like the market is a place where fortunes are made and lost in seconds, the truth is more complicated. Basically, the stock market is a venue for buying, trading, and selling stocks, which are simply shares of ownership in a company.

The seminar has 2 objectives
-          Raise public awareness and understanding on stock market by providing basic knowledge on the concept, process, advantages and risk of stock market
-          Allow the stakeholders (banks, consulting firms, and other securities firms) to introduce their product and service to the public

This seminar was attended by 500 universities students, lecturers and representative from the banking sectors and the public.
