YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The background
Cambodia has one of the youngest populations in the world, with 32% of the population under 15 year of age and approximately 300,000 to 400,000 young people entering the labor market annually. According 2010 ILO report about 7% of young people aged 15-24 are unemployed. Youth unemployment is highest in Phnom Penh at 20%. ASEAN integration allows the free movement of labor and this poses tough challenges for the Cambodian workforce as they will have to compete for jobs with their foreign counterparts. The mismatch between the education systems’ supply of skills and the labor market’s demand for qualified people is also a major issue. According to a study conducted by CAMFEBA, employers identified “soft” skills such as decision making, problem   solving   and   “having   the   right attitude” as   the   most   important   skills   presently lacking in the workforce and which they hoped to see developed. Addressing the mismatch between skills and the labor market demand is an urgent priority for Cambodia. Enrich Institute recognizes this problem and established its pioneering center of career development in order to contribute to narrowing the skill gaps among youth and promote youth employment.

The goal of Enrich Youth Employment Program (EYEP) is to promote youth employment in Cambodia. We attempt to achieve this goal by (1) providing capacity building program to produce qualified workforce (2) connecting job seeker to potential employers through our job placement program and (3) offering career advising services to improve job performance and to deal with job related issues.
